Reinventing Data Warehousing From Scratch In The Cloud – Snowflake

Elastic Data Warehouse Service Snowflake won first prize this month at the Strata + Hadoop World Conference in San Jose after presenting at the Startup showcase for their cloud based Data warehouse product which aims to make Data analysis accessible to all areas of the business from technical teams to Business Analysts.

Co-Founder and VP of Engineering, Marcin Zukowski says, “We wanted to build something which would have both the capabilities of traditional data warehousing and the elasticity and scalability of the cloud without worrying about things like cost performance and the complexity managing a system.”

Snowflake believe that data solutions are becoming too complex and set out to create their product from the ground up as a cloud data warehouse which integrates data storage that is physically separated but with the user in mind rather than being a data driven product build. Ultimately they wanted to provide a solution which was easy for business users to extract useful insights.
